We must be back in civilization! We are at Flying Goose Campground in Fairmont, MN after having traversed South Dakota, 350 miles for the day.<\/p>\n<p>We started the day with breakfast in 1880 Town, SD. Yes it is a tourist attraction but breakfast in the old rail dining car was great fun.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Truck-Camper-Travels\/Alaska-2017\/i-xcRQf5w\/0\/ab758097\/M\/IMG_20170712_074300-M.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The kitchen and dining cars are real.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Truck-Camper-Travels\/Alaska-2017\/i-L5P6qhc\/0\/e773cff8\/M\/IMG_20170712_074233-M.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The entire &#8220;town&#8221; is a replica of something from the 1880&#8217;s.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It is always amazing what you can see as you travel about the country. We had to stop for the corn palace in Mitchell, SD.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Truck-Camper-Travels\/Alaska-2017\/i-H7rnhRL\/0\/258e1ed9\/M\/DSC_0673-M.jpg\" width=\"599\" height=\"397\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What is a corn palace you ask? Feast your eyes on this.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 599px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Truck-Camper-Travels\/Alaska-2017\/i-jBm6g7M\/0\/87dade8e\/M\/DSC_0658-M.jpg\" width=\"599\" height=\"397\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Palatial, don&#8217;t you think? Of course they sell popcorn inside. The tour is free. What you do for entertainment in the corn fields of SD.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 599px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Truck-Camper-Travels\/Alaska-2017\/i-Ptb3Z7p\/0\/625e958b\/M\/DSC_0671-M.jpg\" width=\"599\" height=\"397\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">I think we are in corn country&#8230;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Along the way you see strange sights besides just corn palaces.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Truck-Camper-Travels\/Alaska-2017\/i-ZcdxGzC\/0\/86360162\/M\/IMG_2119-M.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">American Indian art&#8230;in statue form&#8230;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Truck-Camper-Travels\/Alaska-2017\/i-FTpv5Zk\/0\/8385212e\/M\/IMG_2120-M.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">A celebration of? Horns? Steers? Who knows, but there it was.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We ended our journey here.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Truck-Camper-Travels\/Alaska-2017\/i-tsndST6\/0\/b56b219a\/M\/IMG_2129-M.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/> A lovely campground on Lake Imogene. Mostly high 80&#8217;s and low 90&#8217;s today. Very little traffic, lots of commercial scale wind farms and diesel fuel as low as $2.29.
